APC’s defeated aspirants shun planned strategy meeting

Published

on

APC

The much-publicized strategy meeting of the twenty-two defeated presidential aspirants in the All Progressive Congress (APC) with the candidate, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, earlier slated for Wednesday (August 31)) failed to hold as it was aborted at the last minute.

A terse statement issued by one of the aspirants and convener of the aborted roundtable, Dr. Nicolas Felix, dryly said a new date will be communicated soon.

The statement read, “Please be informed that the strategic meeting of 2023 Presidential Aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled to hold on Wednesday, the 31st of August, has been postponed.”

“A new date for the meeting will be communicated soon. Apologies for any inconvenience(s) that this might cause.”

But investigations by www.focusmagazinesoline.com revealed that the aspirants could not agree amongst themselves and with the candidate, hence the decision to put the meeting off.

www.focusmagazinesoline.com recalled that the vice president and one of the aspirants, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, jetted out of the country Tuesday (30 August) to represent the Federal Government at an Energy Transition Plan summit.

The meeting was called to enable the aspirants, according to the notice of the meeting signed by Dr. Nicolas Felix, to brainstorm on fashioning winning campaign strategies to assist the candidate.

Those expected to attend are: former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; former Science and Technology Minister, Ogbonnaya Onu; former Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba; and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio.

Also, Governors Yahaya Bello, Dave Umahi Abubakar Badaru, Ben Ayade, and Kayode Fayemi, of Kogi, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Cross Rivers, and Ekiti States, respectively, were expected at the meeting.

Others are, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; former Ogun State governor and serving senator, Ibikunle Amosun; Senator Ajayi Boroffice and Rochas Okorocha, two-term Zamfara State governor, Ahmad Sani; a former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole; Pastor Tunde Bakare; and businessman, Dr. Nicolas Felix.

Also expected are, former Information Minister, Ikeobasi Mokelu; businessman Tein Jack-Rich; and the only female aspirant, Uju Ken-Ohanenye.

However, the statement by Dr. Nicolas late Wednesday was silent on the reason for aborting the gathering aimed at “adopting winning campaign strategies that seek to carry every Nigerian along in our bid to coast home to victory ahead of the 2023 general elections.”

But investigations by www.focusmagazinesoline.com further revealed that there is general apathy and indifference among most of the aspirants towards the meeting.

A source told www.focusmagazinesoline.com that “some of the failed aspirants gave excuses that the date that was fixed for the meeting was not convenient; while some others did not even acknowledge the invite.”

While the vice president is excusable for his absence, because he was outside the country on an important national assignment, that of Chief Rotimi Amaechi could not be explained other than that he might have been deeply hurt by the dalliance between the candidate, Senator Bola Tinubu, and his arch-enemy, Mr. Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State. After the meeting between Tinubu and Wike in London, Wike had declared in the open that he was busy pulling down the APC’s structures in the state.

President Tinubu

Statement by President Tinubu: It is Time to Build our Great Nation Together

While the verdict of today has laid to rest the agitating discourse over who truly won the 2023 Presidential election and met the constitutional requirements as laid out by law, I want to reiterate that my faith in our nation’s judiciary has never been shaken, not even for a moment, because I know that our hallowed courts of law will not fail to administer justice to all Nigerians in all matters and at all times. Despite the fusillade of pressure and attempts at intimidation by some political actors, the judiciary demonstrated its unequivocal commitment to upholding the rule of law for the upliftment and defense of humanity.

It was affirmed once more today, that my party, the governing All Progressives’ Congress, had freely and fairly won the popular mandate of Nigerians, which has since given rise to my leadership of this great nation at a tumultuous period of unprecedented reforms in our history as a nation.
With deep gratitude to God Almighty, I solemnly and humbly accept today’s judicial victory with an intense sense of responsibility and a burning desire to meet the great challenges confronting our people.

The victory of today has further energised and strengthened my commitment to continue to serve all Nigerians of all political persuasions, tribes, and faiths, with honour and total respect for the diverse opinions and uniting values of our citizens.

Our Renewed Hope agenda for a greater and prosperous Nigeria has further gained momentum and I will continue to work from morning to night, every single day, to build a country that meets our collective yearnings and aspirations.

We are all members of one household, and this moment demands that we continue to work and build our country together. The strength of our diversity and the great citizenship that binds us must now compel us forward in directing the energy of our people towards building a virile, stronger, united, and more prosperous country.

In the days and months ahead, I trust that the spirit of patriotism will be elevated into supporting our administration to improve the living conditions of Nigerians. I am prepared to welcome the contributions of all Nigerians to foster and strengthen our collective progress.

I send my immense gratitude to all Nigerians for the mandate to serve our country. I promise again to meet and exceed your expectations in service delivery and good governance, working with my team and trusting in the grace of God.

May God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Time Up, Retire Peacefully Now, Keyamo Counsels Atiku

Published

on

The Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Mr. Festus Keyamo has counselled the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar, a former vice president, to peacefully retire now from politics and go back to his famed abode.

According to the Minister, “it is now obvious that the loss of Atiku Abubakar at the last polls hurt him deeply more than all his previous losses put together; it has since sent him spinning like a drunkard, lashing out to hold on to every single straw that resembles a lifeline.

He added that “this is bad for his health; he should accept that this game is over and retire peacefully to his famed abode. Those around him have a role to play in this.”

Keyamo was responding to the release of the academic records of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the former vice president late Monday (02 October). He believed that the game is over as the Chicago State University responses have shown.
The senior lawyer held that “from the responses by Chicago State University, Atiku’s journey to Chicago and back has been a journey to nowhere, a fruitless exercise and an odyssey in self-humiliation. President Tinubu and Nigerians deserve an unreserved apology from him.

The Chicago State University, United States of America has already released to the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar the academic records of President Bola Tinubu.
The documents were without any discrepancies to the disappointments of Atiku and his people.
The CSU released the documents to Atiku on Monday in compliance with the order of a United States District Court in Northern District of Illinois.
In ordering the CSU to release Tinubu’s academic record, a US district judge dismissed the President’s objection.

The judge ruled: “For the foregoing reasons, the court overrules President Tinubu’s objections to Magistrate Judge Gilbert’s recommended ruling, and therefore, adopts the ruling in full.
“Mr Atiku’s Application is, therefore, granted. In light of the pending Supreme Court of Nigeria deadline, represented to the court as October 5, 2023, and based on CSU’s representations that it is ready to comply with the discovery requests and produce a witness, the court sets an expedited schedule for completion of discovery.
“Respondent CSU is directed to produce all relevant and non-privileged documents in response to Requests for Production Nos. The Rule 30(b)(6) deposition of CSU’s corporate designee must be completed by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. Given the October 5, 2023, filing deadline before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the court will not extend or modify these deadlines.”
In the CSU documents, which went viral late Monday night, the institution responded to Atiku’s four requests.

Responding to Atiku’s request for “A true and correct copy of any diploma issued by CSU in 1979 to Mr Tinubu,” the US varsity said: “CSU does not, in the ordinary course, keep copies of student diplomas, and after the diligent search cannot locate a copy of the original diploma it prepared for Mr Tinubu in 1979, hence, has no documents responsive to this request.”
Atiku intends to use the CSU academic record in pursuit of his appeal at the Supreme Court where he is challenging Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election.

But Tinubu’s legal team has argued that the documents would be of no use at the Supreme Court.

Akeredolu Admits Illness, Deputy now to Act

Published

The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has formally informed the State about his failing health and the urgent need to take time out to properly attend to it.

The Governor and his inner circle have eventually, bowed to public outcry over his prolonged absence from the Alagbaka Government House, Akure, and on Tuesday (13 June, 2023) caused a letter to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, notifying the House about his need to urgently go on medical leave for twenty-one working days following his health condition, which sources say have become “very critical”.

The governor also notified the Assembly that he had handed over to his deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who shall continue to steer the ship of the State in an acting capacity, pending his recovery and arrival.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, disclosed this on Tuesday in the floor of the House, while acknowledging the receipt of the governor’s letter.

Oladiji stated that “the leave which commenced on June 7 extends to July 6, 2023, due to the public holidays on June 12 and Eid el Kabir of June 28 and 29, 2023”

While the Governor was silent on his next port of treatment, www.focusmagazineonline.com gathered authoritatively from sources close to him that he might be “moved back to Germany and that is if not the way already”. Also, no one spoken to was ready to disclose the nature of his illness.

Oladiji described the governor as a lover of peace and an apostle of the rule of law, wishing him a speedy recovery and a joyful vacation.

It will be recalled the www.focusmagazineonline.com had earlier reported that governance and all Governmental activities seemed to have been grounded to a standstill in Ondo State since the State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu became indisposed. He was said to has also refused to transmute power to his deputy, despite several pleadings.

The Governor was said to had been be holed up in his private home in Ibadan, Oyo State capital since he was moved out of Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where only his trusted aides have access to him.

The Governor according to reliable sources in government circle in Akure, Ondo State was rushed to Germany towards the end of last year for an undisclosed illness. He was said to be in Germany for about two months, before coming back to the country early this year. Upon returning to the country, he was said to had been headed straight for Abuja, where he was said to be “resting”, before moving to Ibadan.

Sources within government circle told www.focusmagazineonline.com that since he was hurriedly driven out of Akure, towards the end of last year, all governmental activities have come to a halt. His close circle was said to be against his transmuting power to his deputy, as stipulated by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The Deputy Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, is said to be in a quandary about happenings in the State Government. Sources disclosed to our correspondent that he had gone to see the ailing Governor in his Ibadan home several times, but was not allowed by the Governor’s aides to see him. Several files needing urgent attention by the Governor are said to have piled up on his table in Ibadan unattended to.

For over a week now there have been some cold rumours circulating in hush tones about the health and condition of the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.

The absence became more noticeable when State Governors of the federation had the inaugural meeting with the President, Bola Tinubu in Aso Rock last week at State House, Abuja. At the meeting, it was only the Ondo State Governor that was conspicuously missing. The deputy could not attend.

www.focusmagazineonline.com checks in Akure, Ondo State revealed however, that the Governor has refused bluntly to transmute power to his deputy, despite being aware of his health conditions since last year. Sections 189, 190 and  191 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) clearly stated with the Governor should transmute power to his deputy.

The man popularly called “Aketi” has been out of circulation since March, immediately the general elections were done with. He was first reported to have gone to Germany for medical attention, but upon return, he made straight for Abuja. He was later said to have been moved from his abode in Abuja to his private home in Ibadan.

These conflicting reports about the condition of the Governor however, took a dangerous turn Saturday (3 June, 2023) when a news blog published reports of his death and someone also circulated a viral picture announcing his death. The State Government however, moved swiftly to dispel the rumours of his death as carried by a news blog.

But www.focusmagazineonline.com learnt that the Governor, according to some very reliable sources very close to him, is said to be in ‘a very critical condition in his private home in Ibadan’, capital of Oyo state.

His close aides spoken to refused to give more on the ailing condition of the Governor, other than his condition has worsen since last week Friday (2 June 2023) evening. He is said to have become almost incapacitated.

The Governor, was born on 21 July 1956, known widely as Aketi, is a vibrant lawyer and politician has been in office since 24 February 2017. Another Governorship election is due in October 2024.

Responding to the rumours of his passing, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Richard Olatunde released some video clips of the ailing Governor praising God.

In one of the videos, the Governor was seen dancing and singing. The lines of the lyrics showed governor Akeredolu who was joyous and full of praises to God for keeping him alive

Governor Akeredolu, left the country for Germany shortly after the APC convention in March. When he came back, he relocated to Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), ‘to rest’, before moving down to his house in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He officially wrote the State House of Assembly to take permission before embarking on an annual leave.

His adopted prefix is “Arakunrin”, while his nickname is “Aketi”. He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) who became president of the Nigerian Bar Association in 2008. Akeredolu was also a Managing Partner at the law firm of Olujinmi & Akeredolu, which he co-founded with Chief Akin Olujinmi, a former Attorney General and Minister for Justice of Nigeria. On 21 July 2020, he was declared as the Ondo governorship candidate after the primary elections under the platform of the APC. He is the current Governor of Ondo State and doubles as the chairman of Southwest Governors Forum.
