A 17-year-old girl (name withheld) on Sunday, September 11, displayed an act of uncommon courage and determination in Abeokuta, Ogun State when she walked to the men of the local security vigilante, Operation So Safe Corps, to narrate how her father forcefully had carnal knowledge of her on Saturday, September 10, at night.
According to the teenager, the father, 46, and father of five other children, having noticed that all the six children had slept off in their one-room apartment, slowly crept to her side, grabbed her, and forcefully had her carnal knowledge.
She explained she wanted to raise an alarm, but he threatened to kill her, hence she held her peace so she could live to tell her story.
Stunned by her graphical and lucid narrative of the event, the vigilante men led her to Ibara Police Station, where she repeated her experience of Saturday’s night with her father.
Stunned by the narration, Bernard Egbondiya, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ibara, Abeokuta, promptly ordered the arrest of the suspect.
The suspect, Olusegun Oluwole, 46, was arrested. The DPO did not waste any time; he swiftly transferred her to the State Command, Elewerà , Abeokuta.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday.
He said the Command has arrested the 46-year-old man, Olusegun Oluwole, for forcefully having carnal knowledge of his 17-year-old daughter (name withheld).
Oyeyemi explained that the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at Ibara police station by the victim, who came in the company of some state security outfit, So Safe Corps men.
According to the PPRO, she reported that while she was sleeping in their one-room apartment in the Amolaso area of Abeokuta at about 11:30 p.m., her father, having observed that others were fast asleep, suddenly grabbed her and forcefully had sex with her with a threat to kill her if she refused to allow him.
He stated further that “upon the report, the DPO of Ibara Division, Bernard Egbondiya, quickly detailed his detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.”
When put on preliminary interrogation, the father of six shocked the investigators. He simply confessed to the crime but pleaded profusely for leniency and forgiveness.
He claimed not knowing what came over him when he committed the crime.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to state criminal investigation departments for further investigation and possible prosecution, while the victim was taken to the general hospital for medical treatment.
